License history

When we started this project we used a content and code base from The Mana World. This had good and bad points, the good ones were that the game skeleton was present, we just needed to work on the game itself, and in the functions that we wanted to add. But bad points were that we were stuck with their guidelines, as it would be as much work as starting from scratch a new game as to change them.

Over the years, we decided to change some of these guidelines, which we found incoherent with our game idea. One of these decision was to change the license kind that we inherited from them: The GNU Public License version 2. This license was designed for source code such as the C used in the server, the C++ in the client and in eAthena scripts and XML files used in the game content.

That’s all. The GNU is badly designed for other game content like sound effects, musics and any graphics used.

Our license policy

  • GPL only for codes
  • CC BY-SA 3.0 for other content
  • Why not other license + advantage of CC
  • Why not other CC

Adoption of the new policy

  • Our actual work on changing the license
  • Brief disclamer for those who accept the dual-license and the abandon of the GPL support
